CELEBRATION OF ADELE’S LIFE As a family we ask you to celebrate Adele’s life with us today, We would like to remind you of some of our memories of Adele’s life that we hope will bring a smile to your faces. We wont mention individual names for fear of forgetting someone important to her. YOUNG LIFE Some of Adeles early friends will remember ....the brownies, ......going to the carnival in Weston and all the other adventures you went on. Adele told us that when she grew up she wanted to be a Brown owl. You may remember Old English Dancing and Tap Class Lessons ....... Adele hated old English dancing. Adele learned to play the piano, she got to Grade 5. She also played the violin in the school Orchestra, Unfortunately she gave up all of her music just before going to Comprehensive school because she said she didn’t think she could cope with the music lessons with the level of homework she would get. Then there was the School Netball Incident, where you were all called to the Headmasters office for potential bullying. The headmaster at that time was one of the most supportive educators we have ever met and was always fair....however many times you were all sent to his office SPORT It might surprise some of you to know that Adele was Captain of her School Girl’s rugby team, and we use the title "Captain "lightly. We often recall laughing raucously at her kick off to start her first ever game....as she was unaware that the ball had to bounce on the ground before being kicked .....so when she was told of this by the referee, she bounced the ball horizontally and hoofed it skyward Then there were the school Swimming Gala’s ........ Adele was always one of the strongest swimmers. Did you know that she started swimming lessons at the age of four and did not swim a stroke until she was 6 years old. When Adele did her mock GCSE’s she only achieved D’s and E’s, ......she laid on the sofa at home and cried and told us that she would "never fail" at anything again. Adele thought Lorraine & Geoff were very strict parents, ....indeed Adele use to say that she spent most of her early teenage years "permanently grounded"......so you can imagine Lorraines horror!! when on Adele’s 16th birthday... ...Geoff told Adele that as she was old enough to leave school and go to work .....ALL rules and restrictions did not apply any more. We still have the incriminating video of her 16th birthday celebration’s. Adele has many friends from her School days, and as a group they have remained close friends to this day She achieved great results at GCSE’s and continued her education at Churchill Community School studying ‘A’ level Psychology, English and Business Studies. UNI After School she was off to University.....her thoughts at that time were to go into Psychology.....this was until she talked to a male friend of hers at our local pub. (Incidentally this friend was banned from the pub for stripping naked and running around said pub). This young man told her that Nottingham Trent University was the place to be and Criminology was a great course. Without even visiting the University Adele decided that Criminology at Nottingham Trent was her next step in life. By the way this male friend is also now a police officer. Most of you will remember her as a very confident person, ....she wasn’t,.... she always doubted herself. We remember her telling us that...she was going to be different and more confident when she got to University. We took Adele to Nottingham Trent Uni and left our first born... in a strange city alone.... We thought we would be very grown up about it and try not to phone every day and fuss.......this was until we got an E mail from her simply saying that some parents do actually phone or E mail their daughters "now and again" to see how they are getting on and update them as to what is happening at home. Adele thrived at Nottingham and made some very special friends there, who again have remained very close to this day. As you would all probably expect, Adele worked hard and played hard at University. She came home toward the end of her degree with her dissertation which was titled ‘How Peadophiles are dealt with in the Penal System and in the Community’. We were asked to read and check it through. and comment where we thought it needing improving..... Yeah Right. Travelling After achieving a 2.1 degree, Adele and a very close Uni friend made plans to travel the world.....Adele worked 4 jobs for many months to raise the money for the journey On the Year long trip away they visited places like Cambodia, Vietnam, India, China, New Zealand, and Australia to name but a few. During the year that the girls were travelling Lorraine & Geoff were privileged to meet up with them on two separate occasions in Las Vegas and Australia and they have very fond memories of those occasions One of which was our Christmas Valentines dinner in February with Adele, and one of our sons and some of Adele’s close friends. Adele said that her travelling year was the best year of her life. Working When Adele came home she toyed with the idea of joining the police. She applied for and was accepted into the police "specials" with the Avon and Somerset police. Adele always volunteered for Saturday night shifts in Central Bristol, she did these shift alongside working full time in another Job during the week. Police specials convinced her that she wanted to be a full time police officer but not in Bristol, she applied to the London Metropolitan Police, and if the truth be known the real reason for the Met (as well as being the best Police force in the world) was also the London social life....... Adele’s application and subsequent acceptance into the Met happened very quickly, so there she was in Hendon Training Centre starting the next chapter of her life. We have to say to you that if somebody would have predicted when Adele was 15 that she would become a police officer We would have called them crazy Again Adele made some special friends during her time at Hendon. We were very proud to attend the Passing out ceremony, (although, we had many laughs joining in with Adele practicing her marching in our kitchen at home prior to the ceremony) Our understanding of the Police process is that Adele could have fast tracked through the initial stages because of her degree in Criminology, but, in true Adele style she said that she needed to start from the ground and gain as much knowledge as she could before she progressed. As Adele moved around the various postings within the different boroughs she again formed some very special friendships. She was about to start another new chapter with a new posting to Trident and she was very excited about this. Adele loved her career in the police. A funny memory Lorraine & Geoff have of her doing her job is when they were in Florida they were watching Wimbledon on the TV ....and low and behold there was Adele on centre court, she was in Uniform right by the tunnel where the tennis players exit the court......... one of the audience asked her if she had a pen they could borrow to get an autograph from one of the players....., we immediately sent her a text saying she should "make sure you get that pen back" and you could see her looking around checking out the crowd to see if we were there. Lorraine and Geoff had a great time recently with Adele and her friend in Florida. Adele told them about a new relationship that she was in and she seemed very contented about life in general. Adele spent her final weekend with her Uni mates who have all told us that they had never seen Adele so happy. We could share so many family memories and stories with you but you would have to book into an hotel for a week to hear them all. Adele did more in her 30 years of life than most people do in 70, always challenging herself and persuading friends to do silly things like jumping out of perfectly safe planes or the going on the biggest bungy jump in the world in New Zealand. Christmas Adele loved Christmas, especially starting off on Christmas eve when we all went down to our local pub the “Woodborough” where all her old school friends congregated at the beginning of the Christmas holidays. Finally Adele was our beautiful beautiful girl and we miss her with every beat of our hearts but we take comfort in the fact that she lived life to the full and enjoyed every moment. Good bye Adele, we will always love you and will never forget you.
